Altes Backhaus
Description
The "Altes Backhaus" inn serves contemporary Austrian cuisine. Bernhard Gruber, a chef with heart and soul, is known for his modern interpretation of cuisine. The connection to the region is obvious. The menu is varied, Mediterranean side dishes meet fish and meat. The gently roasted breast of Lavanttal black-feathered chicken with lemon, eggplants and zucchinis is listed under the "Classic" category. A tasty and also welcome alternative is the salmon trout from Gut Dornau with cucumber, kohlrabi, ring lobster and buttermilk. The "Beerengarten" dessert has fresh accents: seasonal fruit, pistachio sponge cake and basil ice cream - a combination to fall in love with.
"Old bakery", new moments of pleasure
The historic house was built in the 14th century. Known as a former bakery, the interior has changed over the years. However, the rooms with their medieval cross vaults still bear witness to history. The small courtyard garden is charming and serves its purpose perfectly. The "Altes Backhaus" inn is now run by Petra and Bernhard Gruber. Franz Schmutzer completes the motivated duo and, as sommelier, tells guests about the best wines in Lower Austria - as is well known, the oenological land of milk and honey has a lot to offer. The fine wines from the region are served as part of a 5-course gourmet themed menu. The friendly and always competent service staff deserve special mention.
