History and stories in the heart of the city

The city walk through the former imperial residence

Founded in 1192 with the ransom of Richard the Lionheart by the Babenbergs, Wiener Neustadt experienced its heyday under the Habsburgs in the 15th century when Emperor Frederick III. chosen it as the imperial residence. His son Maximilian I was born and baptized in Wiener Neustadt Castle in 1459. He is also buried here in the castle‘s magnificent St. George‘s Cathedral. During the city walk „History and stories in the heart of the city“ you will find the traces of the Habsburgs and especially the Last Knight at original locations.
