We believe that we have made something very personal, something very special out of our love for the south: Villa Maria, arose from the love of warmth, soft light, the infinity of the sea, fine wines - and good, especially Mediterranean food...
From the original plan to plant ten or twenty olive trees around the new house in Crete for personal use, the idea of producing our own olive oil for connoisseurs came about in 2006. Very special oil, of course.
So a search was made for suitable groves. 50 or 100 trees, that's the plan. And they found what they were looking for: in East Crete, in Zakros, a small, picturesque village in eastern Crete, rich in 4,000 years of tradition in olive cultivation around the important Minoan palace in the middle of what is probably the best olive region in Greece. Although – 50 or 100 trees had become more than 600. And the originally intended self-sufficiency became the olive oil producer Villa Maria...
Initially focused on wholesale - from 2014 with a significantly expanded product range (various organic olives from our own production, organic herbs, fleur de sel, fruit in syrup, etc.) - private customer business was also started in mid-2015. After successful tests in markets, the opening of the first Villa Maria – gourmet shop in Wiener Neustadt took place at the beginning of December 2015, an exciting mixed concept based on the motto “shopping and enjoying delicious things”. The next expansion step took place at the beginning of December 2017: our Villa Maria – gourmet shop & mezedes bar in Vienna’s 8th district.
