The cathedral
Anyone driving on the A2 motorway in the direction of Wiener Neustadt can see the two pointed church towers of the Wiener Neustadt Cathedral across the entire Steinfeld. They are a distinctive landmark of the city and have served as important landmarks for travelers since the Middle Ages. Shortly after the founding of the city, around 1200, construction began in the Romanesque style. Over the centuries, the church has never stopped adapting to the most modern styles. In the 14th century, for example, the Romanesque apse was replaced by a Gothic lanchor and the interior was completely redesigned in the Baroque period. At the end of the 19th century and over the course of the 20th century, construction work turned into renovation work, so that the Church of Our Lady can shine in beautiful splendor today.
